Taking a proctored at another location
If you are taking an NMSU Las Cruces campus online course and live more than 75 miles from the New Mexico State University – Las Cruces campus, you may choose to use a local proctor for your examination. Our office will facilitate your offsite proctored exam. At least 3 business days before the exam, you need to complete the Offsite Student Proctored Exam Form.
Step 1: Identify a suitable proctor
Examinations must be taken under the supervision of a proctor who is not a friend or relative. You may use a proctor from any regionally accredited 2- or 4-year college. Most institutions have testing services available or you may use a current staff or faculty member. You may also use a professional testing center such as Prometric Testing Services. In New Mexico, a county extension agent may agree to serve as a proctor. Other possibilities are a public librarian or a state-certified elementary or secondary school teacher or school librarian, school superintendent, or principal. Military personnel may take examinations under the supervision of a commissioned officer of higher rank or an education officer. If you have any questions, you should contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call at (575) 646-8231.
Step 2: Arrange a time, date, and place for the exam
Contact the person who qualifies as a suitable proctor to ask if he or she is willing to proctor the exam. If the person agrees, arrange a date, time, and place for the exam. Have the person sign the form below and return it at least three weeks before the proposed test date. You are responsible for submitting the online form. If the exam is paper based, you are responsible for postage to return the exam.
Step 3: Complete the Offsite Student Proctored Exam Form
Step 4: Notification of approval for the exam arrangements
Once your request is received, the Office of Distance Education will notify you if your request is approved. The exam(s) and instructions will be emailed to the proctor. If the request is not approved, you will need to resubmit the online form.
Step 5: Take the exam at the proposed location and time
Bring a photo ID., writing instrument, and any items allowed by your instructor for the exam, such as a calculator, book, or notes. You will not be allowed to have access to your cell phone, laptop, or other communication device. It is your responsibility to notify the instructor and the proctor if you cannot take a scheduled exam.
