NMSU’s distance education degree programs are designed to serve students who may not be able to pursue an education through traditional means. NMSU offers Bachelor degree completion programs, Masters and Doctorate programs, and a number of Graduate Certificate and K-12 NM educator licensure and endorsement programs.

Program Category: Technology-Based Programs

Description: This program is designed to give students a broad range of course options in business rather than a narrow focus on a single discipline. Graduates may find careers in large and small businesses, in government agencies, and in the not-for-profit sector. The major is designed for students interested in starting or acquiring a small business or entering a family business upon graduation.

Delivery method: Online degree completion

Requirements: A minimum of 120 credits is required for graduation,effective with the 2016-17 catalog. This is a degree completion program, offering the courses that a student would normally be expected to complete during the junior and senior years. The course work for the freshmen and sophomore years may be completed at a junior or community college. The junior and senior level courses include upper division business core courses (BCIS 338, BLAW 316, FIN 341, MGT 309 and MGT 344 or BCIS 485, MKTG 303, MGT 449, an upper division economics elective, an upper division business elective), and eight other upper division business courses, with a limit of three per business discipline (such as finance, economics, marketing, and management). In addition two upper division Viewing a Wider World courses are required.

Prerequisites: The student should have substantially completed NMSU's general education requirements, the lower division business courses in accounting, economics, information systems, and an introduction to business.

To apply: Students should apply for admission to NMSU. Upon admission, they should contact the College of Business at 575 646-3836 concerning their interest in the distance education program in general business.

Accreditation: New Mexico State University is accredited by The Higher Learning Comission of the North Central Association and Colleges and Schools.

Business programs are accredited by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
